New Names for Minor Categories Starting in 2026-2027
Starting with the 2026-2027 season, the Fédération québécoise de ballon sur glace will be changing the names of its minor categories in order to align with the category naming system used across the rest of Canada.
The categories will be renamed as follows:
U8 → U9
U10 → U11
U12 → U13
U14 → U15
U16 → U17
U19 → U20
It is important to note that this name change will not affect the current age groups. Players will remain eligible for the same categories as before.
For example, in the new U11 category, a player must be no older than 10 years of age as of December 31 of the current season, which is the same age requirement that previously applied to the U10 category.
This change will simply standardize our category names with those used elsewhere in Canada and help provide greater consistency for interprovincial competitions and activities.
